Joey, I looked at your pictures, and I have to say you have a great family. I saw a picture with you and your little sister. Little sisters are great cause you get to teach em good boy stuff. My son and I try to watch Batman and Spiderman as much as possible. Did you see the Iron Man movie. I took my son to it and he loved it! Do you know who Thor is? DC comics are making a new movie coming out 2010, I hope it's a good one.

Well you take care,

Cameron

P.S. I'm one of your dad's normal friends.

Joey,
You don't know us we have been keeping up on your treatments thru Paul Boyd. He contacted us a couple of years ago while fund raising and we have kept track of you since then. It sounds like you're getting near the end of your treatments... I'm sure you will be very happy when that happens. Keep up the good spirits I know the nurses in the Childrens Hospital are wonderful. I speak from experience.... My son Corey had Leukemia when he was 17 and the doctors & nurses were wonderful. He was to sick to go to Camp Rainbow then, but since then he has been a counselor there in Aug for about 8 years. He is now 29 years old and just got married 2 weeks ago now both he and his wife Lindsey will be counselors. I hope my son & I will meet you someday.
Keep smiling and have fun!!! Sally

i wish we could come to the poker game, but the timing is not good (actually i wish we had known about it sooner, i kept thinking it was in august) and little eddie is starting to act sick again (he is only 2 1/2 months old, and has already had 2 ear infections!) but uncle john and i are talking about coming to your end of treatment celebration, your cousins angie and scott have been asking when they can play with their phoenix cousins, so we need to make that happen!
we love you all and think about you every day!

Dearest Joey!
Hi!
Just a note to let you know that Grandpa and I had a Yard Sale on Sat., Nov. 3rd at our house in Tucson and raised some money for the Light The Night in your name and I donated that gift today! We met the nicest people, and even met 10 more neighbors! It was funny because I was so tired putting the whole thing together, but I got the energy to pull the whole thing off even when I was "all out of gas!". That is the learning experience about giving to other people - we all help each other. Grandpa and I had such a wonderful day, we sold as much as we could and then donated the rest to Goodwill - so they will benefit also. Please know we love you and you are always in our hearts - give everyone up there a hug for us! Love, Peg

Hey Joey,
It's your 2007/2008 Rock'n Roll runner Darren here. It was great to meet you this past Saturday. I hope your feeling well, and no worries my friend, there will be plenty of time for that mini golf game your looking forward to.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know what a blessing it is to have you as my sponser for this marathon. Guys like you, and parents like your mom and dad help a world to understand what true courage is. I know you and your parents didn't ask for it, but God has chosen you for a very special mission. A mission to touch many many lives and to help a lost world get a glimpse of true courage. A chance for people to experience compassion and to help make a difference in some way. You are one of the truest heros in my book little man, and that goes for your parents as well. I thank you for the opportunity to run for you and the cause of such a wonderful organization as the PCH.

God bless and stay strong Joey,
Darren

Hey Joey: We saw a news piece on your visit to Luke Air Force Base last year and just thought you were the coolest pilot we've ever seen. We love to visit your website and see all the positive updates that appear.
Our good friend near San Francisco (Half Moon Bay) is getting excited about her Cross Country Ski Trip in Alaska to help raise funds for the Leukemia Society. She just had a huge BBQ event up there and raised nearly $3000.00 just in that one evening. I haven't talked to her since the end of January which was the final day to send donations for the trip but I'm pretty sure she hit her target goal. She's a little nervous about the ski part since she's still a novice but she's been training hard for a few months. If you want to call her and give her a few inspirational words, she would love that. Her name is Wendy Padua and number is 650-560-9303.
Once again keep up that wonderful positive attitude.

Hi Joey!

We woke up to snow today so Ephraim got Veaya's snowmachine out and made a track for her in the backyard. She's a great little driver!! If you ever come up here in the wintertime, Veaya said you can have a turn driving her snowmachine around our yard, too. She got your letter and drawing in the mail; and we saw the Christmas card you made - you are a GREAT artist!! You will be getting another letter from her soon, along with her pre-school picture.

Take care and have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving!! BIG HUGS to you and your family from all of us.

Have you decided what you are going to be for Halloween? It is our favorite holiday. We always dress up. Collin is going as a guy from the 80's or a semi-Napoleon Dynamite and I am going as a Go-Go Girl from the 60's.

Hang in there buddy and we'll talk to you soon...Love and Aloha, Collin and Kelly

Hello there! First, congratulations to being a great artist and designing a perfect Christmas card. And how exciting to be on the same baseball field with the Diamondbacks, one of Andrew's favorite teams. I hope you are beginning to like the hospital better. Andrew who says Hi by the way also had leukemia when he was five, he didn't like things much at first, especially taking all his medicines, yuk!
But he begin to really enjoy his hospital visits. One time the Doctor told us we could go home and Andrew asked if he could wait till after BINGO. One of his nurses even played floor hockey with him in the halls. He had a lot of fun staying in the hospital. Andrew is now 13 and in February of 2005 he celebrated his 5 years off treatment. He loves playing baseball and plays it every chance he gets!! He also runs cross country for his school and does very well. We send our love and prayers hoping the time goes by real fast for you.

Hello Joey,

My name is Cameron and I am a big Spiderman fan too. I always thought that being able to swing through the air, climb buildings, and shoot web would be great fun. You and I also have that dislike for hospitals. I don't know what it is but I just don't like em. They ought to have a big toy box you get to pick from when you get to leave. I do like carrots though, my other big cartoon favorite was Bugs Bunny.
Your dad and I met when we were around 11 or 12. We used to play hockey together. Your dad was pretty good. He had speed and a great wrist shot. Those were some fun times.... have him explain to you how to play full contact football on ice.
Like I said, i don't like those hospitals but sometimes we all have to go there to get help. The last time I had to go was to get stitched up from a boating accident that nearly puntured my lung so you do your best to be brave and remember that there are lots of people behind you!

I know you've waited a long time to show those kids a thing or two! LOL You are the BRAVEST MAN I know right now. Keep being the precious little boy you are! Have fun at the ocean and tell the sea lions I'll be visiting soon! Love you with all my heart, your drawing buddy.

Hi Joey,

I'm glad to hear you're doing well. I just wanted to send a note to tell you that I'm thinking of you and I continue to pray for you.

I hope you can come meet my kids sometime soon. We live down the road from your Grandma & Grandpa in Alaska. My son, Kyle, is sleeping in his new bunk beds tonight. He was very excited to sleep on the top. My baby daughter, Norah, learned to say "Ma-ma" this week. :) I bet you could teach my kids a few more tricks, eh?

Hang in there, little buddy.
Love,

Joey! Howdy bud. Althought we have never met, we have quite a bit in common. Your Uncle John and Aunt Aimee told me about you and your website last Saturday night.

I was diagnosed with leukemia about 8 years ago. It is similar to yours, but 'chronic' rather than 'acute'. I have CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Is is not fast-growing kind like yours, but rather very slow. It has taken 7 years until I needed to go in and have chemotherapy. I just got out of my first set of treatments, and I want you to know how much better I am doing. I feel better, and my body is healing.

I have heard that you will be, or are going through chemo soon. I want you to know it wasn't as bad or scary as I thought it would be. My family really helped out and the medicine helped too. I have a three-year-old named Ethan and a 20-month-old named Abigail. They are probably just as energetic and fun as you. They helped take care of me while I was sick.

I just want you to know, Joey, that there are a ton of people thinking and praying for you. I hope you fly through the chemo and keep on having fun in your life. You will be able to look back on this entire experience in 10 years as just a memory.

Good luck, bud, and God bless. And thanks for those that set up this site, it is great!

Hi again Joey!
We are glad to hear that you don't have to go to your visits as often, at least for a couple of months anyway! Oh, I wanted to tell you that Veaya got her friendship bracelet from Jaclyn - it's so pretty. :) She is going to send you something in the mail to hopefully help you feel better. Stay tough and build up your strength for next month's visit. BIG HUGS!!

Good morning Joey,

It was such an honor to meet you and your Dad at the golf event at WE-KO-PA golf course on Monday. Being a leukemia patient myself I understand the pain and suffering an adult must go through battling this dreaded disease. But, I have no way to comprehend how a child or the parents and family of a child like yourself must edure the on going battle of this disease. As an adult I have adjusted to the daily ups and downs, but how does a child like yourself who can't even understand it, who hasn't had enough Spiderman, Star Wars, or baseball in his life, or even attended school yet handle it? I guess this is one of the mysteries of life we will never understand. "JOEY, YOU ARE TRULY MY HERO." I will continue to pray for you and all other patients that we will some day soon find a cure. BE BRAVE. Continue to fight as I will, and "WE WILL WIN."

Your friend for life,
Denny Walker

Hi Pean, Jer, Jake, Joe, Jason and of course, Jenna,
Can't wait to see you all at the benefit!!! I am so,so proud of you Joey and have so much faith in you, and your mom and dad, to get you thru this because there are so many people who care. I met a lady tonight whose son has lived with this for years and wants you to know she cares and wants to help. She asked you and your mom contact her so she can put you in touch with different organizations she relies on. Thank you for being so brave and one of my heroes. Your smart and brave and that's a winning combination. Love you and can't wait for a hug and a kiss. See you at the benefit! All my love, Nana

Thank you so much for being the "honored patient" for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Links Fore Leukemia golf tournament today (www.linksforeleukemia.org/arizona). It was sooo very hot for those golfers, and you really helped cool them off with the water squirt fan. I hope you had fun helping us raise money to find a cure for leukemia. You are a brave guy, and so is your Dad. He did such a great job explaining your leukemia to the golfers. It's hard to talk about sometimes, but you and your dad, and your brother Jacob, are real troopers to come talk to us. When all the money is done being counted, we think we will have raised $70,000! And YOU helped make that possible. God Bless you and your family!

Dear Joey,
It was PRICELESS to see you and your brothers and sis. It has taken me a long time to read all of your web site, so I'm sorry I haven't posted a note before now. Been a "little" crabby lately, so I miss seeing all of you "little" troopers. And please don't ever stop being the precious boy you are now, because you are very blessed to have such unconditional love around you. You can thank my MOM for that. We need to find the time soon to just sit on a beach and try painting that picture again. And I want to thank my daughter for being an inspiration by just being who she is. Kisses and tell Jake I want his and J's and Jenna's lips besides yours of course. AND A HEARTFELT thanks for all who've helped Pean and Jerry in words, thoughts or deeds. All my love to the Black Family and a SPECIAL THANKS to Martha Black for sharing her son with my daughter, he is ONE of the GOOD GUYS to say the least. AND yes I do get very emotional sometimes, but what can you do?? Love ya, later Joe

In fact, your aunt Deidra always tells me that you are very strong and very brave. I think you are verrrrry strong and verrrrry brave!! It takes a lot of inner strength to go through all the treatments and procedures that you have to go through. You are my HERO!!!!!!!!

Hi there Joey,

Just a brief note to tell you that we are all in the same boat. I too am a cancer fighter, and this has become part of my life. The good part about all of this is that I have I have my loving family here with me every step of the way, by my side.
And with them, what can sometimes seem like a frightening experience has become just another barrier, another hurdle to jump over in this journey called life. Have faith, don't ever lose hope.

Wishing you a fast and strong recovery. A big hug from the Mendoncas'.

Hi Joey,
We just wanted to write a little note to you. It's a beautiful sunny day here in Anchorage, but probably not as hot as it is in Arizona, huh? Well, we read about your latest visit to the hospital and we don't blame you for not liking it a bit! One of the silliest things about life, though, is that the things we dislike the most, are often the best things for us. My Mom used to tell me that, and I never believed her, until I became a Mom myself. Silly stuff, I say! But true. Stay tough Joey. We think about you all the time! :)

Hi Joey, I thought I had sent a note, but unlike your computer literate family, I am not. Anyway I'm trying again. Aunt Tootsie, Uncle Joe, Uncle Eddie, Aunt Elma, Aunt Cookie, Uncle Kenneth,Uncle Jerry and I have a prayer circle going for you, so every minute of every day some one is saying a prayer for you. You sure have grown since we saw you last. If you don't remember who we are, ask your dad or mom to show you our picture. We certainly enjoyed visiting you and your other cute brothers. Your little sister wasn't born yet, but I'll bet she is as cute as the rest of the family. You keep your lively spirit and sweet smile ( did you get that from your dad- oh you got it from your mom huh) and we will write again soon. We love you and all your family. Love from your Grandpa Blackie's brothers and sisters.

Hi Joey,

You don't know me but I've been keeping up with you and your fight. I found out about your fight and how strong you are when a friend of yours (Markey DeRoest) asked me to say a lil prayer in my church and so I did. My daddy is a Pastor and as soon as I heard about your story I quickly asked him to lift you up in his prayers. :) So you be strong and know that God is with you and your family, as well as Glendale Community church. I'm going to keep up with you so be ready to hear a lot from me!! :)

P.S. My lil cuzn had luekimia when he was 6 yrs. old. He is now 14 yrs. old and a strong healthy young man. I'm going to give him the website so can come visit you too...

Well that's all for now. I will talk to you later. :D
